Thanks to everyone who came to today's meeting at Fulham Cross Girls School. There were 8 of us: Francois, Kelly, Maya, Rebecca, George, Noel, Marianne, and Keith. Here's what we discussed:
FCF summer social
Provisionally scheduled for Saturday 6 September, 2-5pm.
This year is the cemetery's 160th anniversary, so it would be good for the event to tie in with that.
Treasurer
The position remains unfilled.
We will contact local accountants to ask if they would be willing to act as voluntary trustee and treasurer.
We will also contact Fulham Good Neighbours, H&F Volunteer Centre, and Sobus
History update
The WWI event with St John's school in the cemetery went well – they used the 4 biographies Rebecca provided and pupils sketched the grave insignia.
Rebecca has now added over 1,000 grave entries to Findagrave.com
We discussed creating walking trails for the cemetery's most interesting graves, and QR codes to link to information online.
War graves
We plan to ask a volunteer from the Commonwealth War Graves Commission to come and talk to us about their work and give us a tour.
They are also giving tours in Brompton Cemetery on 18 Jun, 25 Jul, 30 Aug - book here.
Accounts
We have very little funding remaining, so no further expenses are possible until we get more.
Please donate if you are able to support our work!
We have renewed our public liability insurance.
We need to renew the licenses for the historic aerial photography on the website.
We discussed other planned expenses, and potential sources of funding.
Gardening update
The two wildflower patches are very close to blooming.
Gardening work at the moment is mostly bramble removal and careful weeding in the wildflower patches.
Tree watering is continuing successfully, all 37 young trees seem healthy.
Our Duke of Edinburgh volunteer is doing a great job clearing the path edges down from the war memorial.
Idverde have been doing a lot of work, they are keeping areas next to paths and around graves closely mown. They are leaving grass long in other areas, for biodiversity.
Biodiversity update
I shared a pollinator count template (using the FIT count method). You can print this out to survey the number of pollinators in an area within a 10-minute period.
You can also add insect, wildflower, or bird observations using the iNaturalist app – here are iNaturalist observations for Fulham Cemetery.
We will contact the council to arrange a moth count.
The chapel
The roof needs repair but there is currently no money for this.
We discussed possible uses for the chapel in future.
