Plants and insects form the foundation of a healthy ecosystem, which faces significant challenges in urban settings. Noticing these often-overlooked organisms is the first step toward caring for our natural world.

Wildflower areas
Spring flowering bulbs are an important source of food for pollinators like bumblebees in early spring.
Lots along the lime avenue, running south from the principal avenue. Also some along the avenue to Munster Road, and on many graves around the cemetery. They flower from March to April.
The cemetery has both native bluebells and Spanish bluebells. (How to tell the difference)
Small patches in various locations. Together with crocuses, the earliest harbingers of spring, appearing from the start of February.
🌼 New snowdrops and bluebells: 150 snowdrops and 150 native bluebell bulbs were planted by pupils from St John's Walham Green school along the south side of the Munster Road avenue in Oct 2024.
Also called glory-of-the-snow. One patch north of the chapel, along Fulham Palace Road. Also a few along the Munster Road avenue.
One patch in the northeast of the cemetery, near the WWII war plot, another patch along the north border next to Lillie Rec, and a few other small patches.
Several small patches, to the north and south of the principal avenue, and on some graves. They flower from February to March.
🌼 New: The Friends planted 150 daffodil bulbs in winter 2024, along the principal avenue.
A small patch of Balkan anemones (Anemonoides blanda) grow near the war plot. They flower in early March.
🌼 New: The Friends planted 200 native wood anemones in winter 2024, along the south side of the Munster Road avenue.
Year 5 schoolchildren from St John's Walham Green planting bluebells and snowdrops in Oct 2024.
In Spring 2025 the Friends created 2 new wildflower areas to benefit pollinators. We removed existing grass, bramble, and ivy to reduce competition, and sowed 2 different native wildflower mixes. We will be observing the results over the course of the year to learn and improve.
